EPL: Arsenal Maintain Winning Start
Arsenal made it two wins from two matches in the 2026/27 English Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.
The Gunners battled hard to claim all three points in the feisty and fast-paced encounter, thanks to a second half goal just before the hour mark.
Arsenal opened the season with a three-goal win at the Emirates while Villa were thrashed by four goals, making for an important clash in a fixture that has gained notoriety in recent seasons as a title decider for the Gunners against Unai Emery their former coach.
Villa hit the crossbar early in the match through Emiliano Buendia and the chance proved to be the only real opening of the first half.
Saka scored the eventual winning goal on 59 minutes when he slotted Ricardo Calafiori’s cutback into an empty net with the goalkeeper stranded at sea. It is the first time the winger of Nigerian heritage would score in back-to-back EPL matches since November 2024.
The physical encounter drew several cautions in the latter stages as Villa attempted a comeback, but Arsenal’s stingy defense was resolute and saw out the encounter to earn all points for Mikel Arteta on his 250th EPL match in charge of the Gunners.
The EPL champions return to the top of the league while winless Aston Villa still to register a point plunge to the bottom of the log.
