152 Boko Haram Terrorists Killed In August Military Operations

At least 152 members of Boko Haram and ISWAP have been killed, with 142 others arrested, by Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) during significant operational successes across the North East theatre between 1 and 31 August 2026. Officials revealed that a further 219 terrorists surrendered to security forces during the same period, reflecting sustained pressure on terrorist networks operating in the region.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State commended troops for their courage, resilience and sustained commitment to maintaining security across communities, praising their efforts in creating the conditions necessary for restoring civilian life. This update was disclosed by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, in a press statement on Tuesday.

Goni stated: “From August 1st to 31st, 2026, troops neutralised 152 terrorists in ground/air operations and arrested 142 terrorists and logistics suppliers, while significantly 219 terrorists surrendered to the security forces. The development reflects sustained pressure on terrorist networks and continued degradation of their capacity to operate across the theatre.” He added that operations also included 10 air interdictions conducted in support of ground activities, while troops and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams neutralised nine Improvised Explosive Devices, preventing their use against troops and civilians.

According to Goni, troops recovered 58 weapons and explosive items during operations, including AK-47 rifles, an AK-49 rifle, rifle magazines, locally fabricated firearms, a hand grenade, a locally made pistol and an RPG bomb, alongside 1,184 rounds of ammunition. He said: “Further recoveries included 16 mobility assets, comprising a Toyota Isuzu, four Golf wagons, six motorcycles, three bicycles and two tricycles. Troops also recovered 44 mobile phones, a Sony video camcorder and ₦1,794,910, among other items.”

Goni emphasised that these figures reflect the “sustained and coordinated efforts of Operation HADIN KAI across the theatre to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics, deny freedom of action and create conditions for the restoration of lasting peace and stability in the North East.”

Zulum visits troops

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum visited the Headquarters Joint Task Force on Monday, 31 August, following an earlier working visit to the 68 Battalion, Nigerian Army, in Mallam-Fatori, headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area. During his visit, the governor praised troops for their “courage, resilience and sustained commitment to maintaining security across the border communities and creating the conditions necessary for the restoration of civilian lives.”

His engagement with the Theatre Commander provided an opportunity to review the security situation in Mallam-Fatori and ongoing efforts to consolidate military gains, secure liberated communities and support the safe return of displaced populations. Zulum acknowledged the military’s critical role in securing these areas and reaffirmed the Borno State Government’s continued support, particularly in providing resources to strengthen operational effectiveness.

The governor also highlighted the state’s broader efforts to accelerate resettlement of liberated communities and facilitate the safe return of refugees from neighbouring countries, complementing the security progress achieved by OPHK. Earlier, at 68 Battalion, Zulum interacted with Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Chiwar, alongside senior officers and troops, commending their dedication and pledging continued government backing.

In response, Theatre Command OPHK expressed appreciation for the ongoing partnership with the Borno State Government, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining coordinated operations aimed at protecting communities, securing infrastructure and enabling the safe return of displaced persons across the region.
