LagRide Expands Lagos Coverage With 400 New Vehicles Ahead Of Ember Rush

LagRide, the Lagos State-backed ride-hailing platform, has announced the deployment of 400 additional vehicles as part of efforts to meet rising transportation demand across Lagos during the Ember Months.

The latest addition is expected to strengthen LagRide’s capacity and improve access to its services as passenger traffic increases toward the end of the year.

With the new vehicles, LagRide’s operational fleet has grown to more than 2,000 cars across Lagos.

The company is also targeting the recruitment and mobilisation of more than 1,000 additional drivers, known as Captains, by December, as it seeks to expand its operations and reduce waiting times for passengers.

LagRide said the newly deployed vehicles are being introduced in phases, with its services expanding to areas including FESTAC, Ikorodu and Ajah.

The company expects the expansion to enable it to provide more than 200,000 rides during the Ember Months, a period traditionally associated with increased movement and transportation demand in Lagos.

The latest deployment is separate from LagRide’s longer-term vehicle expansion plans under its Drive-to-Own programme.

Under the programme, the company is targeting about 3,500 vehicles, supported by a $100 million financing facility from United Bank for Africa (UBA).

The Drive-to-Own initiative is designed to provide drivers with an opportunity to eventually own the vehicles they operate, while simultaneously helping LagRide expand its fleet.

The latest 400-vehicle addition therefore represents another step in LagRide’s broader strategy to increase its presence in Lagos’ growing ride-hailing and urban mobility market.

The expansion also comes amid continuing efforts by stakeholders in Lagos to provide more reliable and affordable transportation options for the state’s large and growing population.
