Nigerians Are Enjoying, Petrol Costs N3,000 Per Litre In UK – Okpebholo

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State says compared to the United Kingdom where a litre of fuel sells more than N3,000 per litre, Nigerians currently buying fuel around N1,400 per litre are enjoying.

Okpebholo made the remark on Thursday at the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event in Edo State.

He said he visited London the previous week and bought petrol to compare prices with Nigeria.

“Let me tell you, after conversion, it’s about N3,000-something for one litre of fuel,” the governor said.

According to Okpebholo, the comparison showed that Nigerians were paying less for petrol than motorists in the UK.

“We are doing very well here. The President is stabilising the economy. He’s an economist,” he said.

His comments come amid renewed concerns over the rising cost of petrol and other essential commodities following the removal of the petrol subsidy and subsequent increases in pump prices.

Okpebholo said the economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu were difficult but would eventually produce results.

He likened the reforms to an aircraft taking off, arguing that passengers do not receive food until the plane reaches cruising altitude.

“I want to let you know, very soon Nigeria will be on the cruising level. Nigeria will be on a cruising level,” he said.

The governor also pointed to ongoing road construction as evidence of development under the Tinubu administration.

He spoke in support of the Federal Government’s intervention on the Benin-Asaba Road, which has deteriorated and caused difficulties for motorists travelling between Edo and Delta states.

Okpebholo also endorsed Tinubu’s continued presidency ahead of the 2027 election, asking those planning to challenge the President to reconsider.

“Is Aso Rock vacant? Is Aso Rock vacant? So Aso Rock is not vacant,” he said.
