Explosion As Car Rams Into Gas Store In Abuja

A car rammed into a gas store on Arab Road, Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday morning, triggering explosion.

According to witnesses, the impact of the explosion shook buildings far away from the scene.

Residents of Dantata Estate, Kubwa, which is about two kilometres from the scene, were said to have felt the impact as their buildings vibrated.

“The explosion was loud enough to wake people from their sleep, and we could feel the buildings shaking. Everyone was wondering what had happened,” a resident said.

The shelter stand and sign posts at nearby Liberty Junction were destroyed in the incident which occurred at about 6:15am.

Nearby shops were also affected by the inferno, while the vehicle involved in the crash was completely razed.

The driver of the ill-fated car and a child were rescued from the scene and taken to the hospital for treatment.

When our correspondent visited the scene, security operatives and fire fighters were on ground trying to restore normalcy.

A large crowd was also seen obstructing free flow of vehicular movement. (Daily trust)
