BREAKING: INEC Announces October 9 for Nationwide PVC Collection

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence nationwide on October 9, 2026, as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, is expected to provide further details on the exercise, including collection procedures and designated centres.

The announcement comes as INEC steps up preparations for the 2027 elections, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, followed by governorship and State House of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.

The Commission had earlier concluded the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and said preparations for PVC collection had commenced. INEC also confirmed that the generation of the nationwide register of voters and synchronisation of voter data were ongoing.

INEC’s voter portal currently allows registered voters to check their PVC status and identify their collection centres.

Professor Amupitan, who became INEC chairman in October 2025, has repeatedly urged Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections.

The nationwide PVC collection exercise is expected to be an important phase of preparations for the election, particularly for newly registered voters and those who transferred their registration or requested replacement of lost or damaged cards.
