I’ll resign if Nigeria doesn’t begin to change in one year of ADC government – Amaechi
Rotimi Amaechi, vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says he will resign from office if Nigeria does not begin to experience change within one year of an ADC administration.
Speaking on Wednesday on AIT, Amaechi said he believes an ADC government would prioritise major sectors if elected in 2027.
“If Nigeria does not begin to change, one year after we have come to office, come to me, I will resign,” the vice-presidential candidate said.
“One year after? Yes, if Nigeria does not begin to change. I didn’t say Nigeria must change or that everything must change. But even if you feel the change, you have a breath of fresh air.”
Amaechi added that security, education and the economy must be addressed for Nigeria to make progress.
“You must deal with three things. You must deal with security, you must deal with education, you must deal with the economy before this country can progress,” he said.
The former minister of transportation noted that tackling corruption would be imperative because funds meant for development are being diverted into private pockets.
“And to do all that, corruption will have to come down because there is no money for anybody to steal,” Amaechi said.
“The reason why these things are not being done is that the money that will be used to fund these things are in private pockets.”
Amaechi added that the removal of petrol subsidy by the Bola Tinubu administration has not translated to better living conditions for the masses.
He said the source of money being spent at social gatherings, amid widespread poverty and hunger in the country, is worth investigating.
“Going by how high poverty is in Nigeria, now we import over 46 percent of finished goods. Who are those importing it? Nigeria is in trouble,” he said.
Amaechi said he watched as Nigerians recently hooted at Tinubu during the president’s movement from the Lagos International Airport to his residence.
“I watched people hoot at Tinubu from the Lagos International Airport to his house. If we become president, nobody will do that. They will be clapping for us because we will change Nigeria,” Amaechi said.(TheCable)
