33-Year-Old Man Arrested for Writing FCTA Promotion Examination for His Father
A 33-year-old man has reportedly been arrested after allegedly attempting to sit for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promotion examination on behalf of his father.
The incident occurred during the ongoing promotion examination being conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission in Abuja.
According to reports, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), who were deployed to provide security at the examination venue, apprehended two FCTA staff members over alleged suspicious activities during the exercise. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
The details surrounding the alleged impersonation involving the 33-year-old man and his father are still emerging, and authorities have yet to publicly disclose the identities of those involved or provide a detailed account of how the alleged substitution was detected.
The 2026 FCTA promotion examination commenced on October 5 and is expected to run until October 13. About 10,700 FCTA workers across 145 cadres are participating in the exercise.
The examination is being conducted electronically, with each candidate given 45 minutes to complete the computer-based test. Candidates are also required to present their regulation and confirmation letters for identification.
FCT Civil Service Commission Chairman, Emeka Ezeh, had stressed that promotions would be based strictly on merit and available vacancies, in line with public service rules.
The latest incident has raised fresh concerns about examination malpractice and identity verification within the public service, with the police expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation.
