Ronaldo Banned For 30 Days, Fined €255 For Leaving Portugal Team Camp
Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed soft disciplinary decisions for leaving the Portugal national team camp in anger last month.
The national team captain was handed a 30-day suspension, and received a €255 fine for his actions.
The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation handed out the verdict on Sunday for former Real Madrid’s shock action following a snub from coach Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo was as unused substitute in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway on September 27 despite warming up for half an hour.
The former Real Madrid man failed to celebrate at fulltime, and left the camp despite attempted interventions.
Coach Jesus called his bluff, and Ronaldo apologized days later, demanding to be punished.
The disciplinary council ruled that Ronaldo is guilty of breaching Article 160 of its disciplinary code, and applied the stated punishments of 30 days suspension and the shocking fine.
In another leniency move, the council stated that Ronaldo would serve the suspension from the day he left the camp.
The Portugal legend will therefore be available for his country’s matches in November if invited.
Ronaldo is only 20 goals away from reaching a record high 1,000 career goals, has scored 146 international goals and won three trophies.
