Ganduje’s Ally Mansur Ahmed Quits APC

A former Kano State Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Mansur Ahmed, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing concerns over the party’s deteriorating affairs.

Ahmed, a close political ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, announced his decision in a resignation letter submitted to the APC chairman of Yakasai Ward in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.

His resignation comes barely a week after another prominent politician in the state, Arc. Aminu Dabo, a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), also quit the ruling party.

In his letter, Ahmed said the decision followed a collective assessment of the state of affairs in the APC by him and his political associates.

He said the development, coupled with the need to contribute more meaningfully to the development of Kano State and Nigeria, had prompted him to seek an alternative political platform.

According to him, there was a need for a platform that prioritises the protection of lives and property as well as the welfare of citizens.

The former commissioner, however, expressed appreciation to the leaders, stakeholders and members of the APC, particularly those in Kano Municipal, for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the party’s growth during his membership.

Ahmed served as commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport during the administration of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso between 1999 and 2003.

He is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Bradford, England.

The engineer was also a former governorship aspirant and served as deputy coordinator of the Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campaign Council in Kano State. (Daily trust)
