Tackle Hardship Now – Osinbajo Charges Leaders
Former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has charged African leaders to tackle the challenges of hardship, hunger, and economic emancipation facing their people.
Professor Osinbajo gave the charge on Tuesday in Yola while delivering a public lecture titled “Democracy and Development: The Imperative of People-Centred Governance” as part of activities marking the 59th birthday of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State.
Professor Osinbajo stressed that governance must go beyond occupying public office.
In his view, leadership is most meaningful when it responds to the needs of the people, promotes accountability, strengthens unity, and creates opportunities for citizens to live better lives.
He commended Governor Fintiri for his leadership and development efforts in Adamawa, noting that the governor’s profile and accomplishments had attracted attention beyond the state.
According to him, the value of leadership is ultimately measured by its impact on people and the lasting contributions it makes to society.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, who attended as the special guest of honour, spoke on the importance of effective communication between the government and the people.
Jibrin observed that open communication helps build mutual understanding, strengthens public confidence, and allows citizens to better appreciate government policies and programmes.
He commended Governor Fintiri’s efforts in developing Adamawa State’s infrastructure and urged residents to continue supporting initiatives that would move the state forward.
Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the gift of life and the opportunity to serve the people of Adamawa State in different capacities.
One of the significant announcements of the occasion was the governor’s plan to establish the Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Foundation after leaving office.
According to the governor, the foundation will sustain his commitment to helping the less privileged through scholarships and other forms of assistance for vulnerable members of society.
