Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, has unveiled a manifesto containing 100 pledges.

Speaking at an event in Lagos on Friday, Hamzat said the manifesto, titled “The Lagos Promise”, focuses on healthcare, education, job creation, infrastructure, youth empowerment, security and inclusive governance.

He said the manifesto is built around seven pillars: people first, renewal, opportunity, machinery of government, inclusion, security and resilience, and everyday dignity.

Hamzat said his administration would be guided by respect, work and truth, adding that his ambition was not just to seek votes but to earn the trust of Lagosians by outlining his plans and demonstrating his readiness to lead the state.

“I stand before you today, not simply to ask for your vote, but to earn your trust, to share my vision for Lagos, to explain what I believe that we must do differently, and to demonstrate why I’m prepared to serve you,” he said.

The deputy governor said his childhood experiences shaped his understanding of residents’ needs, including the importance of proper drainage and reliable electricity.

He said his contributions to the government included developing Lagos’ digital map and residents’ register, introducing single-digit mortgages rates and constructing inner roads.

Hamzat pledged to complete the state’s rail lines, improve road and water transportation, expand access affordable housing, strengthen security and upgrade healthcare across the 57 LGAs and local council development areas.

He also promised to improve education, skills development and job creation, support small businesses, strengthen waste management and flood prevention, and protect coastal communities.

He said his goal was to build a safer, more prosperous and inclusive Lagos, with residents at the centre of government decisions.

Hamzat also pledged to establish an independent body to monitor his administration’s performance and assess its progress in delivering on its promises.

“An independent performance council will review delivery and report directly to you as Lagosians,” he said.

“And every year, one document will set every promise against the result. Where we miss a target, that report will name it.

“That report will give us reason and set a new date.

“Chinua Achebe often repeated an old proverb…until the lions have their own historians, the story of the hounds will always glorify the hunter.

“So, the Hamzat compact makes every Lagosian a historian of my government. It puts the pen in your hands. You check it, you track it, and you measure it.” (TheCable)
