EPL: Brighton Defeat Manchester City
Manchester City were stunned 1-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion at the Etihad stadium in their English Premier League match.
The Cityzens lost to a Yasin Ayari goal scored on 11 minutes in a match they squandered several chances to claim victory. It is their second defeat of the season, but a first at home.
Enzo Maresca’s side could not stamp their foot on the match in the opening exchanges, and Brighton pounced to score the opener. A quickly taken free kick to the wing led to a cross that was poorly cleared, and it allowed Ayari to slot home the loose ball from six yards.
Brighton defended its central areas effectively but was labored on the wings. However, City could not convert chances created as Iliman Ndiaye was thwarted twice by Bart Verbruggen who also produced excellent stops on Erling Haaland and Kushanov.
Brighton held on to claim their sixth win of the season and tighten third place position with 19 points, two points behind Man City who remain joint-top with Arsenal but have played a game more.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal of the EPL season in Coventry City’s 3-1 win over Sunderland. The striker netted a deflected strike to double Coventry’s lead as Frank Lampard’s team made it three wins this season.
