Manchester United scored three second-half goals to overcome a two-goal deficit and win 3-2 in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) match at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils came into the game down and out but found inspiration in the second half to score thrice- including twice in the last ten minutes- to seal an unlikely win despite ending the match with ten players following the dismissal of Matheus Cunha, the two-goal hero.

Matias Soule and Donyell Malen scored early in the first half to put Roma two goals up, with Soule slotting into the near post in the 11th minute before Malen converted a penalty eight minutes later.

The rhythm and pendulum swung Man United’s way in the second half, and Mathias Cunha was the catalyst. The Brazilian won a penalty that was converted by Bruno Fernandes on the second attempt in the 58th minute. Cunha netted his first on the night with a well-placed shot after Roma failed to clear a Bruno Fernandes cross. The former Wolves winger then arrowed a piledriver high into the net three minutes later to complete the comeback.

Cunha received a second yellow card for a hard tackle and was shown red, but Man United held on to claim their first win in 10 matches. Michael Carrick’s side also ended a two-match UCL defeat to ease the pressure on the head coach.

In other matches, Paris Saint-Germain, defending UCL champions, scored four goals in seven minutes in the first half to demolish Villarreal 6-0. Raphinha scored a second-half brace to ensure Barcelona returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, who lost their winning run in the competition. Bayern Munich also won 2-0 at Atletico Madrid with both goals scored by Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer, two youngsters. Inter earned its second win of the UCL season with a 3-0 thumping of Feyenoord in the Netherlands.
