Akwa Ibom visit reminds me of my Mobil days – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has described his visit to Akwa Ibom State as a homecoming, recalling his days as an auditor with Mobil Oil Nigeria and his contributions to the development of parts of the state.

Speaking during his visit to Uyo on Friday, Tinubu said he had worked in Akwa Ibom before venturing into politics, noting that his experience in the oil industry gave him a special connection with the state.

“This is a homecoming for me. I was here in Akwa Ibom as a Mobil auditor. We built Ibeno, developed Eket and did what we had to do,” the President said.

He expressed excitement at returning to the state as President to inaugurate projects, particularly the international terminal of an airport named after his former colleague, former Governor Victor Attah.

“I never dreamed that I would become President and come back to commission an airport named after my then-colleague governor, Victor Attah,” he added.

Tinubu was in the state to inaugurate projects executed by the administration of Governor Umo Eno.

The projects include the international terminal building at the Victor Attah International Airport, an international airport hospital and the Ibom Aviation Village, among others.

The President’s relationship with Akwa Ibom dates back to his career in the oil industry, where he worked with Mobil Oil Nigeria after previous engagements with accounting and consultancy firms, including Deloitte and GTE Corporation.

He rose through the ranks at Mobil, moving from the company’s audit department to become its treasurer before venturing into politics. (Daily trust)
