2027: Atiku’s coalition against Tinubu unfair, unjustified, says Nwosu
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ugwumba Uche Nwosu says the ongoing gang-up by Coalition of opposition politicians against the second term aspiration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in not only unfair but unjustifiable.
Nwosu in an interactive session with reporters in Abuja on Saturday insist that President deserves a second term in office based on the power shift arrangement between the Southern and Northern parts of the country.
He called on the coalition of opposition politicians led by the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to be act like true patriotic Nigerians by allowing President Tinubu serve out his two terms in office which expires in May 29, 2031.
Nwosu, who made an unsuccessful bid for the governorship of Imo state in the 2015 poll, remarked that it is too early to pass judgement on the performance of the President Tinubu led administration after two years in office notwithstanding the fact that it has been able to record inroads in socioeconomic and infrastructural developments in the country since he assumed the mantle of leadership of the country.
Stating that the gale of defection by members of opposition politicians to the APC should not be seen as a surprising development, he faulted the notion that Nigeria is heading towards a one party state ahead of the 2027 poll
He said Nigerians can be rest assured of the continuous presence of multiparty democracy in view of the fact that opposition peoples democratic party (PDP), labour party (LP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) still have governors and other occupants of elective seats in their folds in the country.
Decrying the spate of insecurity in parts of the country, he said the unfortunate situation which predates the administrations of President Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari deserves concerted effort to nip it in the bud.
He said notwithstanding the bold effort by President Tinubu to tackle the security challenges in the polity, there is the need to boost community policing which involves the active participation of traditional rulers, the youths and critical stakeholders to keep the peace in the entire 774 local councils of the country.
Nwosu, however, opposed calls for Nigerians to take up arms to defend themselves arguing that such measure remains a recipe for chaos and anarchy in the country. (Guardian)
