2027: Like Jonathan, Tinubu’ll Accept Defeat – Ogun PDP Chair

The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Abayomi Tella, says President Bola Tinubu will be roundly defeated in the 2027 general election and he will accept the result in good faith like former President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015.

Tella who spoke with Daily Trust said the gale of defections from the PDP and other opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is more of a burden than gain to the ruling party and the president.

“The number of defections does not determine what the victory will look like.

“So, I am not perturbed by the defections that are going on. This is politics, where (APC) they are defecting to will soon explode. You’ve had that experience before.

“And when it explodes, you’ll see people moving down, and some people coming back. We will get to that stage—it’s still very early. By 2026, you will see people who are aggrieved,” Tella said.

The PDP Chairman insisted that the electorate who will decide the next election are not defecting to any political party.

“The people are going to decide. And looking at the wave of things, the president is a democrat, he will take it (defeat) in good faith when it happens. (Goodluck) Jonathan was there, and he saw some signs that were not right. He rose to the occasion. Jonathan was a human being like him, Jonathan was defeated. So why not him?,” he said.

On Monday, Governor Dapo Abiodun received some members of the PDP and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, following their defection.

The delegation, led by Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, a former chairman of the PDP in the state including Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, who was that party’s running mate among others.

Other prominent members of the delegation were Dr. Ekelojumati, Hon. Olowo Fuja, and several grassroots mobilizers from various local government areas.

Abiodun expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s commitment to fostering unity within Ogun State, highlighting the APC’s dedication to inclusive governance and sustainable development.

Reacting to the development, Tella described them as inconsequential.

He singled out Ogundele as only “true politician,” among the recent detectors, describing others as inconsequential.

“We are going to gain it because we are going to win the 2027 election. We are resolute to our strategies. I’m not shouting about anything. If we see anything that’s going wrong, we’ll talk about it, facts, figures. We are not going to be propagandists like them.

“We are going to talk about facts. But as far as 2027 is concerned, we are putting up our strategy and we are sure, Inshallah, by 12, 1 o’clock on the day of the election, we will have coasted home to victory. We will have been victorious.

“So let them continue to play their game,” he said.
