2027: South South govs, APC leaders endorse Tinubu
Governors and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South South over the weekend endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
The position was made known during the APC stakeholders’ interactive session held in Benin City, where prominent party figures extolled the leadership qualities of President Tinubu and declared support for the continuation of his Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027, to consolidate developmental strides and set the country on a path of sustained growth.
Notable speakers at the event included Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole (Edo North Senatorial District); Hon. Abubakar Momoh, Minister for Regional Development; and the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, who spoke on behalf of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Other dignitaries present were the former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku; Deputy Governor of Edo State, Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; Secretary to the Edo State Government, Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor; APC National Woman Leader, Mary Idele Alile; Edo State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe; and Edo South leader, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The speakers collectively passed a vote of confidence in both President Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.
They cited several ongoing national reforms—such as the student loan initiative and the exemption of low-income earners from tax payments—as major achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation to his fellow governors for their presence, describing the gathering in Benin as a demonstration of unprecedented unity.
“This is the first time we are seeing unity among the governors coming together in a single room to discuss the progress of this country,” he noted.
He praised President Tinubu as a “capacity working president” who has provided “the necessary requirements for us to operate seamlessly.”
Highlighting the President’s “critical reforms” aimed at national development, Okpebholo said, “Things you think are difficult are made easy through his policies.”
He further commended Tinubu’s boldness in taking difficult decisions that have yielded benefits for Nigeria’s growth.
Reiterating his pledge, Okpebholo vowed to deliver 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in Edo State come 2027. Dismissing opposition doubts, he said:
“How will it not happen when I am already working, constructing good roads?”
