Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 51-year-old man, Oluranti Badejo, for beating his 40-year-old wife, Folasade Badejo, to death.

According to information available to The Eagle Online, the husband was arrested by the police on October 12, 2022.

Badejo was reported to have been arrested following a report lodged at Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters by the younger sister of the deceased, that she received information from her elder sister’s daughter that her elder sister, who lives with her husband at 7, Madam Felicia Street, Orimerunmu, Mowe, has been beaten to death by her husband.

Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Mowe Division, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested.

The lifeless body of the victim was there and then evacuated to the mortuary in Shagamu for post mortem examination.

According to the spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of minor disagreement.

Oyeyemi said having realised that he has killed his wife, Badejo used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased so as to look as if she was electrocuted.

He added: “But unfortunately for him, their eight-year-old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing.

“It was the daughter who testified seeing her father strangulating her deceased mother to death.”

The Command’s Commissioner, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
