57 suspected homosexuals arrested in Lagos granted bail

The 57 suspected homosexuals, arrested by the officers attached to the Lagos State Police in Egbeda area of the state have been granted bail.

They were arrested at the Kelly Ann hotel in Egbeda, Lagos state, last weekend, have been granted bail and later arraigned at the Magistrate court by the police yesterday August 29th and were granted bail.

Recall that the Lagos state police command arrested the suspects on Saturday August 25th on allegations that they were being initiated into Homosexuality.

The 57 suspected homosexuals were paraded before newsmen on Monday August 27th.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi who confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a press conference with newsmen, said;

“Intelligence gathered revealed that some youths will be initiated into a Gay/Homosexual Club between 1 a.m and 2 a.m. at Kelly Ann Hotel/Events Centre, located at No. 3-7, Adenrele St., Egbeda, an action contrary to Section 1 (1) of Same Sex Marriage, Act 2014.

“Consequent upon this, some operatives from the Shasha and Idimu Police stations stormed the venue and met no less than 80 young men.

“They were taking different types of drinks, including banned substances such as Tramadol, and Shisha laced with substances suspected to be marijuana.

“As soon as they sighted the Police, they ran into different directions, but the team arrested 57 of them.”

The Lagos state police spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, in a chat with LIB, said the case against the suspected homosexuals is still very much alive as they are expected to appear before the court again
