‘Anywhere Wike Is, I’m There’ — Fayose Breaks Silence on Defection to APC
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has spoken openly on his political alignment and the growing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), making it clear that his loyalty remains with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Fayose also dismissed claims that he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that despite internal challenges within the PDP, he has no intention of leaving the party.
Speaking during a television interview, Fayose launched a strong attack on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of abusing power and weakening the PDP structure across the South-West region.
He alleged that Makinde has sidelined many party members who played key roles in his political rise, claiming that valuable state assets were taken over under his leadership.
According to Fayose, “almost everybody who worked for his ascension has been driven away.”
The former governor further accused Makinde of dismantling the PDP’s foundation in the South-West, stating clearly that “Makinde has destroyed all PDP structures in the South-West.”
Fayose also raised concerns over the party’s internal processes in Osun State, questioning the transparency of candidate selection.
He alleged that “a candidate who did not even obtain a PDP form eventually became the candidate,” a situation he said undermines internal democracy.
Recounting a personal incident, Fayose claimed he was attacked during a political event in Osun State. He alleged that “Makinde organised an attack on me in Osun,” and described the Oyo State governor as “a small boy” politically.
On his own political journey, Fayose described himself as an elder statesman who rose to power without external influence.
He stressed that he governed Ekiti State independently, saying, “I fought my governorship without a godfather.”
Addressing speculations about his political direction, Fayose openly declared his loyalty to the former Rivers State governor, stating, “I’m a Wike person. Anywhere Wike is, that is where I am.”
Despite his strong criticisms of PDP leadership in the South-West, Fayose maintained that he remains committed to the party. He firmly stated, “I will never join the APC.”
