Burna Boy‘s ‘I Told Them…’ tour has reportedly shattered records, becoming the highest-grossing concert tour ever by an African artiste. 

According to data released on Monday by the analytics platform Tourist Data, the global trek generated a staggering $30.5 million from 302,801 tickets sold across 22 shows.

A standout performance was the singer’s show at London Stadium on June 29, 2024, which set a dual record.

The concert drew 58,973 attendees — Burna Boy’s most-attended show to date — and grossed $6.147 million, making it the single highest-grossing concert by any African artiste in history.

‘I Told Them’ tour, named after Burna Boy’s seventh studio album, ran from November 3, 2023, to March 9, 2024.

The achievement followed weeks of public scrutiny for Burna Boy after a viral incident at his concert in Colorado, where he asked a couple seated in the front row to leave after they were seen sleeping during his performance.

The lovers exited the venue to mixed reactions from the audience, triggering widespread criticism online.

The backlash intensified after an Instagram live session in which Burna Boy suggested he only wanted supporters who bought tickets to his shows.

He later defended his actions, comparing the situation to removing a disruptive passenger from a flight or sending a student out of a classroom.

He expressed strong disapproval of being treated like mere entertainment, stating he would “gladly be cancelled if we are now in a world where you can treat me like a stripper, slap my a** and tell me to keep dancing cuz you throw $100 at me”.

The singer also pushed back against claims that he disrespects his fans, insisting he had been misquoted and that some of his comments were made in jest.
