Man Utd choose Barcelona’s Dembele as alternative to Jadon Sancho
Manchester United remain keen on Borussia Dortmund winger, Jadon Sancho, but have identified Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as a possible alternative, ESPN reports.
Dortmund sporting director, Michael Zorc, cast doubt over Sancho’s exit this week, by insisting the Bundesliga side “plan on having Sancho in his team this season”.
Although Sancho wants to move to United personal terms is not expected to be an issue, Dortmund is continuing to hold out for €120million and is demanding the vast majority of that asking price to be paid upfront.
However, United has not admitted defeat, especially as Zorc made a similar public statement about Dembele when he was a Dortmund player in June 2017, only for the winger to join Barca two months later.
Sancho is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No. 1 choice, but other options have been discussed, including Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Juventus’ Douglas Costa.
United have also held informal talks over a move for Dembele, who has two years left on his contract.
The 23-year-old has not played a competitive match since November and underwent surgery on his hamstring in February.
