Sevilla forward Akor Adams leaves Super Eagles AFCON camp ahead of the quarter-finals
The Super Eagles camp in Morocco has been hit by a temporary setback after a Sevilla forward was allowed to leave the team on compassionate grounds ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old attacker departed the team’s base in Fes to be with his mother, who was recently admitted to hospital. The Nigeria Football Federation approved the request, showing understanding and support for the player during the difficult period.

The forward has grown into an important member of the national team since breaking into the squad under the current head coach. He made his international debut in October 2025 during Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Lesotho and has since featured prominently, starting six of the team’s last seven matches alongside Victor Osimhen. In that run, he has found the back of the net three times.
His moment at the ongoing AFCON came on Monday night when he scored his first-ever tournament goal in Nigeria’s dominant 4-0 Round of 16 win over Mozambique. The strike carried deep personal meaning, as he revealed afterward that it was dedicated to his mother, who could not be in Morocco due to her health situation.
After the match, the striker expressed gratitude to God and shared that his mother’s condition had improved following her admission earlier that day. The emotional dedication underlined the significance of the goal beyond football.
Team officials have confirmed that the player is expected to return to camp in time for Nigeria’s quarter-final clash on Saturday. Despite his brief absence, the Super Eagles remain focused and determined as they continue their push for a first Africa Cup of Nations title since 2013.
