Kanayo O. Kanayo Warns against ‘fine face’ culture in Nollywood
Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has raised fresh concerns over what he described as the growing ‘fine face’ culture in Nigeria’s movie industry.
The actor made the remarks in a video message posted to Instagram warning that the trend of prioritizing physical appearance over raw acting talent poses a major threat to Nollywood’s growth.
Kanayo cautioned that casting decisions should not be reduced to aesthetics, stressing the need to preserve the industry’s depth and authenticity.

“Let’s not let the pretty faces eclipse true artistry,’ he urged.
The remarks quickly gained traction across social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter), sparking a flurry of reactions from filmmakers, actors, and fans.
Many agreed with Kanayo’s sentiment, while others argued that both appearance and talent can coexist in shaping Nollywood’s global appeal.
Industry watchers say Kanayo’s comments come at a critical time when Nollywood is enjoying unprecedented international attention, but also facing internal debates over quality and representation.
