Edo Police Nab Teenager For Staging Own Abduction, Demanding N10million
An 18-year-old woman, Obehi Odine, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command in Ekpoma for staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of ₦10,000,000.
The report was received by the police, who promptly investigated the claim. Police confirmed that Odine deliberately fabricated the incident to attempt to extort money.
“The suspect, one Obehi Odine ‘F’, aged 18, has been arrested for staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000),” the statement said
Investigations revealed that the kidnapping was not genuine. “She has confessed to the crime, admitting that the incident was deliberately fabricated to extort money,” Eno Ikoedem, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command, said.
The police also explained that a forest enclave in Ubiaja, identified through drone surveillance and intelligence, was suspected to be a base for kidnappers.
“A concealed forest enclave identified by the drone squadron through intelligence generated from air surveillance as a suspected kidnapping and logistics base, was stormed. This resulted in the arrest of eleven (11) male suspects believed to be members of an organised kidnapping syndicate,” Ikoedem said.
The items recovered during the Ubiaja operation were listed to indicate the scale of the suspected network.
“Twenty-four (24) Dane guns, seventeen (17) cutlasses, three (3) battle axes, gun powder, torchlights, mobile phones, solar panels, assorted charms, one Daylong motorcycle, and the sum of ₦209,700.00 cash, among other exhibits,” the statement added.(SaharaReporters)
