RIVERS CRISIS: Impeachment Process Against Fubara Canceled – Sources
The impeachment process against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been tactically canceled, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu to Rivers State lawmakers aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike.
Sources close to the matter reveal that Tinubu, who had been avoiding Wike’s calls, summoned Fubara to discuss the Rivers crisis during his European holiday. After Fubara’s visit, Tinubu called Wike, instructing him to stand down and suspend the impeachment process to restore peace in Rivers State.
Wike, desperate to salvage his influence, is reportedly creating distractions and seeking court injunctions to stall the process, sources claim. Two Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) members have withdrawn from the impeachment proceedings, amid allegations of Wike’s orchestration.
Analysts note that Tinubu’s intervention has left Wike in a difficult position, struggling to retreat without appearing weak. The APC has reportedly distanced itself from Wike, citing his perceived arrogance and disregard for institutions.
The development has sparked debate, with some calling on Tinubu to revisit his earlier decision to suspend Wike-aligned lawmakers, citing concerns about Wike’s growing influence and perceived power hunger.
As Rivers State politics continues to shift, one thing is clear: the battle for control is far from over.
