Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), French champions, have sacked Thomas Tuchel, their German manager of two years, on Christmas Eve.

, the 47-year-old German’s two-and-a-half-year reign at Parc des Princes came to an end on Thursday — less than 24 hours after leading PSG to a 4-0 win over Strasbourg in the league.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager joined PSG in the summer of 2018 and has won consecutive league titles as well as the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue in 2020.

Tuchel has, however, had a running battle with the club hierarchy due to a lack of success in the European Champions League, the club’s priority competition.

Both parties have also had a turbulent time with transfer targets and team selections, while PSG’s performances have flattered to deceive this season in which they find themselves in third place in the league.

Tuchel’s contract was set to expire at the end of this season following a contract extension in May.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a football journalist and transfer news expert, the club would name a successor in the next 48 hours and it is expected to be Mauricio Pochettino, former Tottenham manager.

The Argentine, who played for PSG between 2001 and 2003, has been without a job since leaving Spurs in November 2019. (The Cable)
