I WAS DOING MY JOB! Security guard cuts off arm of suspected thief in Lagos
A 25-year-old security guard, Zakarayu Kasumi, is in jail for cutting off the arm of a suspected thief identified as Mr. Adekunle Popoola.
The incident happened at Adepeju area of Akowonjo in Shasha, Lagos State.
Kasumi who was employed as a night guard said while patrolling the area he saw Popoola around 3am as he was sneaking into another resident’s house and he moved to stop him.
He said when he got there with his cutlass, Popoola attacked him and he used the cutlass he had to cut off his arm.
The Kano State indigene said that when the residents came out and saw that it was Popoola who is also a resident of the community, they blamed him but did not ask Popoola what he was doing outside at that time.
Out of fear, the residents handed over Kasumi to the police to avoid being arrested if eventually, Popoola dies as a result of the attack. P.M.EXPRESS reports.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where the doctors are battling to save his life. An embattled Kasumi was handed over to the police at Shasha Division.
He was later charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for inflicting injury on Popoola. He pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor did not object to his bail.
Kasumi was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.
