The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Osuolale Akiolu, has distanced himself from chieftaincy issues in Kirikiri town, Lagos State.

In a letter to the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs titled “Re: Matters of Imposition of Baale of Kirikiri Town, Apapa and Balogun of Ojo Town, Ojo, Lagos State”, the monarch said he knew nothing about an allegation that he supported one of the Baaleship candidates in Kirikiri and Ojo town.

He said: “I believe that the local chieftaincy committees in Apapa and Ojo local governments will be in a better position to treat the matters based on honesty, fairness and good conscience.”

However, some factions spread rumour that Oba Akiolu supported one of the Baaleship candidates in Kirikiri town, a claim the monarch described as false.

Speaking about the letter by Oba Akiolu, Chief Shabi described it as a good omen and praised Oba Akiolu for his neutral position in the matter.
