Traditional Rulers in Ekiti State have warned politicians to eschew violence and play the game according to its rules.

The monarchs advice came on tbe heels of the unfortunate incident at Omuo-Ekiti on Saturday during a botched House of Assembly by-election which claimed lives and left dozens injured .

The Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, in a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti expressed sadness over the killings .

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues monarchs, Oba Alabi pleaded with indigenes of Ekiti state to embrace politics without bitterness and also see themselves as partners in Ekiti development project .

The monarchs noted that the gruesome killings that took place during the election was unnecessary and condemnable.

They ,however commiserated with Governor Kayode Fayemi on the loss of the persons who died during the election. Oba Alabi also commiserated with the families of the deceased praying that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

The Obas made passionate appeal to politicians keep the peace and stop blood letting as witnessed in Omuo Ekiti during a bye-election to fill a vacant Assembly seat. The Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti and Chairman of the State Traditional Council, HRM Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, AFUNTADE 1.

The monarch stressed that Ekiti could not afford to become a theatre of war because of any election or any issue.

The statement urged Security agents to swiftly prosecute those found culpable of the heinous crime while urging the people of the state to remain calm and maintain the peace that Ekiti State is known for.
