Royal family dismisses petition against Jide Kosoko’s selection as next Oloja of Lagos
The Kosoko royal family of Lagos has upheld the selection of ace actor Jide Kosoko as the next Oloja of Lagos, dismissing a recent petition challenging it.
The declaration follows a statement issued by the family on Thursday, which was independently confirmed by a royal source to TheCable Lifestyle.
The family’s response comes after a petition was reportedly filed with the Lagos state government by Surajudeen Abiodun Olojo-Kosoko and Theophilus Olojo-Kosoko.
The petition emerged just a day after the family publicly announced Jide’s nomination.
In the rebuttal, the family framed the appointment as a necessary and lawful corrective measure.
They stated there is no internal crisis, but rather a “firm, lawful, and traditional correction of a monumental error”.
The family pointed to a prolonged delay in the installation of Abiola Olojo Kosoko, a previously appointed candidate who was named Oloja-elect in 2020 but remained uninstalled six years later.
“If an Oloja-elect appointed since 2020 could not be installed six years later, then something must clearly be wrong somewhere,” the family asserted.
The family said a decisive meeting was held on January 24, 2026, at the residence of Mutiat Ashabi Ali-Balogun, the Olori Ebi general.
They revealed that the dissenting princes were active participants in the very process that led to Jide’s selection during the meeting.
“There is no crisis, only a firm, lawful, and traditional correction of a monumental error,” the family added.
“It is both shocking and duplicitous that the authors of the petition are now feigning ignorance of a decision they actively participated in.
“At that meeting, it was collectively agreed that a new Oloja of Lagos-elect be appointed and subsequently presented to the wider family at a general meeting scheduled for January 27, 2026.”
The family clarified that the selection process is wholly unrelated to the reign of Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos.
They described the petition as a deliberate attempt to distort the facts surrounding the actor’s nomination and to disrupt a settled and collective decision.(The Cable)
