Fifteen people abducted alongside Tanko Salihu Islamiyya students in Tegina, Niger State have escaped from their abductors.

The abductees claimed they escaped while the guards watching them were deeply asleep.

The Nation learnt the victims were separated from the children after the abduction.

They said they didn’t know where the children were taken to.

A source said the abductees were locked in a house inside Zamfara forests before they escaped.

The official said the government had to send reinforcement into the forest to get others when one of the victims emerged from captivity.

The escaped victim arrived in the town on Saturday night while the others arrived on Sunday morning and afternoon.

It was learnt those who escaped had been admitted in health facilities.

Some residents of Tegina confirmed the arrival of the abductees to The Nation.

It was learnt they were received by Vice-Chairman of Rafi local government area at Birnin Gwari community of the local government area.

In a related development, 15 bandits were allegedly killed in a gun duel with Military operatives in Anguwan Mallam in Kontagora local government area of Niger state.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday, the Nation was told.

The Nation learnt the military men who were on patrol saw the bandits on motorcycles in Anguwan Mallam which is a few kilometres from Kontagora town.

The bandits, upon seeing the military men, reportedly began shooting, resulting in a fierce gun battle that led to the death of the bandits.
