The kidnapped Emir of Kajuru in Kajuru local council of Kaduna State Alhaji Alhassan Adamu has been released, one of the kingmakers Dahiru Abubakar confirmed on Monday.

The Emir was released on Monday afternoon a few hours after the bandits demanded N200 million to release him and several members of his family including grandchildren.

Abubakar did not say whether the ransom was paid or not.

The Nation also gathered that only the 85-year-old Emir was released. The bandits held on to the others.

The Emir upon his release addressed his subjects as soon as he returned to his palace.

But just as the Emir was freed, news came that bandits attacked Makarau Jankasa community in Zango Kataf local council area, killing nine persons.

Several persons were said to have been injured, while many fled their homes to the neighbouring communities.

A resident of the community, Donald Bityong who confirmed the incident to our correpsondent yesterday, said the gunmen invaded the community on Sunday  around 5pm.

Security personnel reportedly arrived in the village after the criminals had disappeared into the bush.

“These attacks are too much for us to bear; no one is safe any longer in our communities. Nobody can go to their farm now,” Bityong  said.

Police spokesman Mohammed Jalige promised to provide more information on the killings.
