Bandits Razed Nearly Entire Village – Zamfara LG Chair
Armed bandits that attacked Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State last Thursday burned down almost the entire community.
The Chairman of Anka LGA, Bashir Musa Anka, disclosed this in a chat with Daily Trust on Monday.
Nearly 50 people were killed in the attack. Residents said the bandits blocked all access roads to prevent villagers from escaping, then opened fire indiscriminately, forcing people to flee in panic.
Musa Anka confirmed that 33 victims were given a mass burial while many others were severely injured, though exact figures are not yet available.
He added that roughly two-thirds of the village, including all silos, was razed.
Musa said villagers engaged the bandits in a gun duel from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., but after exhausting their ammunition, the attackers gained the upper hand.
He noted that insecurity has persisted in Anka West, with similar attacks in the past two months affecting Barayar Zaki, Waramu, Matsifi wards, and neighbouring Tungar Nagode village.
The LGA chairman called on Governor Dauda Lawal to intervene and provide urgent support to the affected wards.
Malam Shafi’u Anka, a resident, said the village, which had about 160–200 houses, was almost entirely destroyed, leaving only the house of the district head and the mosque intact.
Shafi’u added that the attack was reportedly triggered by the villagers’ refusal to reconcile with the bandits.
He said neighbouring communities wanted to assist but were deterred by reports of Army jets overhead, likely to avoid civilian casualties. (Daily trust)
