A
liyu Abubakar Usman, 22, one of the sons of the Chief Imam of Yangoji Central Mosque, Kwali Area Council of Abuja, who was kidnapped has been bitten by a snake.

Daily Trust had reported that the chief Imam, Abdullahi Abubakar Gbedako, who is also the vice principal of Junior Secondary School (JSS) Kwaita, in the area council, was abducted by gunmen alongside his two children.

Two weeks ago, gunmen had broken into the Imam’s Yangoji home.

A family member of the chief imam, who preferred anonymity, told Daily Trust off the record that the victim was escaping from their abductors’ den when he was bitten by a snake.

“Actually, the senior son of the chief imam, Usman Abubakar, was able to escape from the kidnappers’ hideout, last Thursday, but unfortunately, he was bitten by a snake inside the bush and he is currently receiving treatment at a traditional medicine place, which I can’t disclose now for security reasons. And you are aware that his father and younger brother are still in captivity,” he said.

He said members of the victims family are still struggling to source money to ensure that the chief imam and the other son regain their freedom.

Daily Trust gathered that the kidnappers had demanded N10 million ransom before the chief imam and his two would be set free.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, DSP Adeh Josephine, did not pick calls or reply to a text message sent to her up to the time of going to press.
