JUST IN: Adamawa governor, Fintiri, dumps PDP, joins APC
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, governor of Adamawa State, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fintiri announced that members of his cabinet, along with other stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had joined him in moving to the APC.
The declaration puts an end to widespread speculation surrounding the governor’s intention to defect to the ruling party.
Earlier in the week, 15 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly — including Bathiya Wesley, the speaker, and Buba Jijiwa, the deputy speaker — resigned from the PDP.
The lawmakers said their decision was driven by the “lingering crisis” within the party.
Following Fintiri’s defection, the PDP is now left with only three serving governors nationwide.
