TCN Restores Bulk Power In Lagos Axis After Collapse Of Towers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says bulk power transmission has been restored around Akangba in Lagos after an inferno caused the collapse of five transmission line towers.

Spokesperson of the commission, Ndidi Mbah, said this in a statement on Friday night.

He said the acting Managing Director of TCN, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, flew from Abuja to the site to inspect the level of damage after which engineers checked a second transmission line and diverted the energy load to it from the damaged 330 kilovolts (kV) Akangba to Ikeja West line.

Abdulaziz said the second line now wheels 121MW to the Akangba Transmission Substation, noting that areas under Ikeja Disco whose supply were affected by the pipeline incident, will now have normal supply of electricity.

“In view of the importance of transmission line redundancy, Engr. Abdulaziz said TCN has already directed two contractors to mobilize to site to commence the reconstruction of the towers and 330kV line,” he said.

He reiterated the need for everyone to be part of the fight against vandalism of the nation’s assets.

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, was said to have been caused by pipeline vandalism.
