A 20-year-old man believed to be Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been released on bail pending further investigation, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed.
On Sunday, images and audio emerged on social media alleging domestic abuse from Greenwood by his girlfriend Harriet Robson, and police confirmed an arrest had been made in connection with the incident.
The police then announced on Tuesday that the same 20-year-old man had also been “further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill”.
A further statement release on Wednesday morning that the suspect has now been released on bail.
Manchester United have confirmed that Greenwood will not train with or play for the club until further notice.
In a statement made on Tuesday, the club said it “reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind”.
