Franklyn Ikemefune is a Nigerian content creator who is currently making a significant impression in the entertainment industry with the diary of an Agbero – (a bully-boy who works at a motor park).
“IF AN AGBERO HAD A DIARY” by Ikemefune is a comedy series based on the lifestyle of Samo Agbero who is in love with a lady named Wosi.
SAMO sometimes gets in trouble and sometimes he plays the role of a savior to his colleagues, Elele, Agarawu, Ejo, whenever they find themselves in the police net.
The comedy series sometimes last for just a minute but the evidence of the love of Nigerians for the content can be seen in the comment section of the posts on Twitter.
Below is one of SAMO AGBERO’s diaries made after the loss of Nigeria to Tunisia at AFCON 2022. “You too see”
Ikemefune, the brain behind the diary, however, speaks with PM News on things his fans would love to know about him and ‘the diary.’
1. Many Nigerians do not know your real name, where you come from, and your educational background. Tell us about yourself
My name is Franklyn Ikemefune. I’m from Delta State. I was born and bred in Ibadan, Oyo State. Graduate of Political Science, University of Ibadan. 1st child from a family of 5. I’m a content creator, recording artiste, and tech enthusiast.
2. Your comedy skits have become daily paracetamol to Nigerians, I could remember the first time I watched. It was about the Eagles’ defeat and I laughed so hard and watched it over 10 times.
What went through your mind the day you decided to start playing the role of Samo Agbero?
Agbero’s diary is a culmination of real-life experiences from my early days in Ibadan. I grew up playing football with a lot of “garage boys”, so I was exposed to their ways of life early and that shared experience has stuck with me despite the contrasting paths that we’ve taken.
3. Though it’s clear you have a crazy mind but I will still like to know how you come about names like Ejo, Agarawu, Elele, and the likes.
Oh, these are real people. I grew up with a lot of these guys, some of them have even seen the skits and have called to tell me how excited they are to see that I’ve not forgotten them. Most of them are real people. Some made up, but it’s the experience that I’ve had being around these guys that gave me an idea of how their names usually go.
4. Is your girlfriend’s name Wosi or part of your concept? And the fact that Wosi is a Muslim and you are a Christian, where did that come from, did you grow in a home with mixed religion?
Wosi is definitely an integral character in the plot. Wosi is not my girlfriend lol. I actually don’t personally know any Wosi in real life. I like the name though, evidently. I didn’t grow up in a home with mixed religion. My mum is Christian, my dad was Christian. But I’ve had Muslim friends for as long as I can remember. So I don’t even see it as a thing.
5. Do you have plans of joining Nollywood and what’s the vision 2025 or 2030 for this massive project of yours.
I mean; God-willing, the plan is to scale up. When the right offer comes along, we’ll blow this series out the water and enter Nollywood proper. But yes, I intend to join Nollywood very soon. Please cast me o.
6. Are you getting the support of your colleagues? Who has reached out to you or extended hands of friendship.
I mean, people have acknowledged and encouraged me on this journey. It’s been just a month anyway so it’s still super early. Besides, I’ve been on the entertainment scene since 2017 as a recording artiste, so I already have some sort of relationship with a plethora of people in the entertainment industry.
7. What’s your advice for struggling content creators.
Start with what you have. Make sure your story/narrative is authentic to who you are. People can easily tell who’s real and who’s phony.
8. Content creators are now big influencers, what’s your advice for Nigerians concerning the choice of leadership in 2023.
Let’s not make mistakes that we’ve made in the past. Let us be more conscious of the fact that we have more than two parties. Let us abandon the agenda and look towards being on the right side of posterity.”
