Tinubu Asks Senate To Confirm Taiwo Oyedele, Other Appointees
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday requested the Senate’s confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President and read during Tuesday’s plenary, the President sought the accelerated screening and approval of the appointee.
Following the request, the Senate referred the matter to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.
Senator Godswill Akpabio also read three additional correspondences from the President requesting the consideration and approval of Mainasara Ilo as Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre for an initial four-year tenure.
The request was referred to the Committee on Narcotics and Sports.
Akpabio also read a letter for the confirmation of three commissioner appointees for the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
In the letter, Senator Magnus Abe was announced as the chairman of the commission, while Jossy Yaro and Sunday Adebayo are appointed as non- executive commissioners.
The letter was referred to the committee on petroleum upstream, which was mandated to return it in one week.
For Revenue Mobilizations and Fiscal Commission, Senator Akpabio read the letter from Tinubu announcing the names of two commissioners, Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State and Abdulahi Muktar from Kaduna State.
The letter was referred to the Committee on National Planning, which was also mandated to report back in one week.
Our correspondent reports that the plenary was adjourned to Wednesday, March 11, to honour Late Senator Barinada Mpigi, representing Rivers South-East.
He died recently in the United Kingdom after a protracted illness. (Daily trust)
