Columnist and thought leader, Fredrick Nwabufo says any 2023 presidential aspirant of Igbo extraction who is not condemning the mindless killings being experienced in the South-East region “should not be taken seriously”.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that gunmen on Sunday attacked the Enugu State Commissioner for Lands, Chidi Aroh, killing two of his police orderlies.

On the same day, hoodlums bombed the Isu Police station in the Isu Local Government Area of Imo state, killing two police officers and injuring one officer.

On Tuesday, an unspecified number of people, including policemen and a soldier, were feared dead at the now dangerous Ihiala axis of Anambra State during a clash between security operatives and gunmen.

Reacting to the daily news of killings perpetrated by the so-called ‘Unknown Gunmen’, Nwabufo challenged Igbo politicians to do more in showing they don’t support the evil.

“Any Igbo leader who isn’t addressing or working to address and speaking out against the daily carnage in the south-east, but campaigning ahead of 2023 elections, shouldn’t be taken seriously. And I mean — all of them,” he wrote on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

Prominent southeast politicians like Pius Anyim and Orji Uzor Kalu have indicated their interest to become Nigeria’s next president.
