Android Loses 8% Of OS Market Share In Five-Years
Increasing competition from Apple and others has eroded Android’s global dominance of the Operating System(OS) space by almost eight per cent.
Android commanded 77.32 per cent of the OS space, its highest ever in July 2018. This has however ebbed gradually, dropping to 69.74 per cent globally by January 2022.
Data from StockApps.com show competition in the sector is very keen with Apple gaining almost 6 per cent more its share of the market.

A look at the data shows that iOS gained 6 per cent between July 2018 and January 2022. From 19.4 per cent in 2018, Apple has grown its OS market share to 25.49 per cent.

Available data shows that the OS’ dominance is geographic. For instance, 84 per cent of all smartphones in Africa are android-based.
iOS accounts for roughly 14 per cent of the continent’s devices, while Samsung, Nokia, and KaiOS share the remaining two percent or so.
A similar situation obtains in Europe, where Android OS has a market share of 69.32 per cent.

Android dominates Asian and South Americans taking up 81 and 90 per cent and leaving iOS’ share at 18 per cent in Asia and 10 per cent in South America.
