The Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure Nigeria before the 2023 general elections, to engender unity, security and national development.

President of the council, Oladotun Hassan, who made the call yesterday in Abuja, asked the president to convoke an urgent national dialogue to address all internal conflicts before the 2023 elections.

“We are not talking about balkanisation of the country; what we mean in the restructuring is the strengthening of the bi-camera legislature, the devolution of power, as well as the review of the exclusive, concurrent and residual policies to strengthen national development,” he said.

Hassan urged the leader of the Yoruba Nation separatist movement, Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho, and the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and other separatist agitators to shelve their clamour for self-determination.

The council also endorsed the ambition of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to become Nigeria’s next president, saying he will address the reason for separatist agitations across the country.

Also speaking, the coordinator of Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide, Ismail Olayemi, urged the president to see the emergence of Tinubu through the support of party leaders across all regions of the country as an opportunity to push for restructuring.
