Canada denies Yemi Alade visa over fears she won’t return to Nigeria
Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade, and a host of others have been denied visa to perform in Canada at the Festival international Nuits d’Afrique.
The Canadian authorities doubted that Yemi Alade and the others will return to their country after the music festival.
This was revealed by a French Language newspaper, Le Devoir, which quoted a Co-Founder of the festival. Suzanne Rousseau.
Rousseau said the visa denial was due to “financial reasons, and for fears that the group wouldn’t leave Canada.”
Rousseau also lamented that the process of applying for a visitor’s visa has been difficult for “at least five years.”
She added: “Finally, we got an answer saying the musicians were refused, saying they have to guarantee that they have enough financial means that will make them go back to their country.”
