South Africa beat Morocco to win first WAFCON trophy
The Bayana Bayana of South Africa have won the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time after beating Morocco 2-1 in the final on Saturday in Morocco.
Hildah Magaia was the heroine of the match after her brace saw South Africa win the tournament for the first time after five attempts.
After a goalless first half dominated by the South Africans, Magaia broke the deadlock on 63 minutes giving the visitors the lead.
Eight minutes later, she doubled for Bayana Bayana with a composed finish.
The second goal woke up the Moroccans as they sprang into action to reduce the tally.
Rosella Ayane drilled the ball into the bottom corner to pull one back for the Atlas Lionesses.
