UK Based Nigerian Wins Engineer Of The Year Award


A Nigerian man based in the United Kingdom, George Imafidon, has been named Young Engineer of the year in the Royal Academy of Engineer (RAE) Award.

Imafidon emerged as the overall best among the five winners who were awarded 3,000 pounds.

The four other winners were; Dr Robert Hammond, a lecturer in infection and Global Health at the University of St Andrews; Dr Fragkoulis Kanavaris , Arup’s leading material specialist with a background in structural engineering; Dr Matthew Marson, Global Market sector director at Arcadis and Dr Beatriz Mingo, a materials Engineer and Presidential fellow at the university of Manchester.

While celebrating on twitter, Imafidon wrote, “I WON THE YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARD!!!??, To that little boy in Peckham and all the kids having to overcome countless barriers, please believe in yourself. Know you are worthy and capable of achieving your dreams.”

Imafidon is a Performance Engineer working with Sir Lewis Hamilton HonFREng’s team x44 electric racing team to design and run an Extreme-E race car.

The motorsport team founded in September 2020 is said to have the aim of drawing attention to environmental issues by racing in the world’s most remote locations affected by climate change.

Imafidon spent years fixing his friends’ bikes in Peckham, Southeast London, a pastime that eventually led him to graduate university college of London with a First-Class Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering.
