I won’t solve climate change as president unless funded by Western nations – Tinubu
Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for 2023, says if elected his government will not adhere to global preventive measures against climate change except the West was ready to fund the cost.
Mr Tinubu disclosed this while fielding questions at the Arewa Interactive Committee on Monday in Kaduna. Specifically, as one of the panellists, he was asked what he would do about climate change which has triggered flooding across the country.
“We are a poor nation. They say firewood is not for fetch. They say we need to plant more trees and they are not giving us money,” Mr Tinubu said.
The APC candidate added, “We need to tell the West, if you don’t guarantee our finances and work with us to stop this, we are not going to comply with your climate change.”
Speaking further, Mr Tinubu described climate change as “a question of how do you prevent a church rat from eating poisoned holy communion. That’s the way.”
In recent times, massive flooding has ravaged communities across the country, displacing citizens and submerging farmlands.
Mr Tinubu’s response that he would not comply with precautionary actions except if being funded by the West suggests that Nigerians would have to suffer the devastating effect of flood triggered by climate if he wins next year’s election.
