Israeli strikes on Lebanon violate ceasefire deal…. Our fingers on the trigger – Iran President
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Israeli strikes on Lebanon violate the ceasefire agreement with the United States and would render negotiations meaningless.
Iran and the US reached a ceasefire deal on Tuesday based on a 10-point plan to achieving peace proposed by the Islamic Republic.
However, Israel and the US say the ceasefire relates only to attacks between the US, Israel, and Iran. Israel has since continued to strike Lebanon.
Though details of the 10-point plan have yet to be made public, Mohammad Ghalibaf, Iranian parliament speaker, said on Thursday that Lebanon was a key part of the two-week ceasefire with the US.
In a tweet, the Iranian president said his country would continue to stand by Lebanon.
“Israel’s renewed incursion into Lebanon is a blatant violation of the initial ceasefire agreement. This is a dangerous sign of deception and lack of commitment to potential agreements. The continuation of these actions will render negotiations meaningless. Our fingers remain on the trigger. Iran will never abandon its Lebanese sisters and brothers,” Pezeshkian said.
Ghalibaf criticised the US over its “repeated” violations of commitments.
The acceptance of Iran’s uranium enrichment formed part of the 10-point plan.
However, US President Donald Trump said America will work with Iran to dig up and remove buried uranium in the country.
Ghalibaf said negotiations, in the face of violations, would be unreasonable. (The Cable)
