Man United turn on style as Mount, Sesko punish Sunderland
Manchester United cruised to a comfortable 2–0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Mason Mount and Benjamin Seško both finding the net in a dominant display.
Erik ten Hag’s men looked sharp from the start, moving the ball with intent and punishing Sunderland’s defensive lapses. Mount opened the scoring early with a fine finish after a slick team move, before Šeško doubled the advantage calmly slotting home to cap a confident performance from the young striker.
There was a flashpoint in the first half when Šeško’s high boot caught Trai Hume inside the box. Referee Stuart Attwell initially awarded a penalty, but after a VAR check, the decision was overturned much to the relief of United fans.
Former England captain Steph Houghton, on BBC Final Score, said:
“When your leg is that high, you run the risk of giving away a penalty. It was lazy defending in that moment.”
Pundit Chris Sutton also praised United’s attacking play, noting the improved chemistry in the final third.
“It’s important for him to get goals early. United have a better supply line this season, and it’s showing.”
Sunderland’s best chance came from a Daniel Ballard header that flew wide before the break, but they never truly troubled United’s backline. Bruno Fernandes dictated the tempo throughout, ensuring a composed and controlled performance from the home side.
